Philadelphia’s new music ensemble Relâche, celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2018, invites two Philadelphia-region composers for a residency with the ensemble this spring!
A stipend of $500 will be paid to each of two composers by the residency’s co-sponsor, American Composers Forum, Philadelphia Chapter. Applications will be due by midnight February 26, 2018, and all materials are to be submitted via email, or by providing webpage links. Local applicants who may not be members of American Composers Forum, Philadelphia Chapter will be expected to join and become members if awarded a residency. The applications will be judged by the artistic leadership of Relâche in conjunction with ACF. Women, minorities, and young composers are especially encouraged to apply. This opportunity does not include high school or college undergraduates, but those in grad school may apply.
The names of the two composers selected will be announced on March 2, 2018.
Each chosen composer will originate a 3-6 minute composition for six players with the following instrumentation: flute/piccolo/alto flute; clarinet in B-flat/alto/tenor sax; oboe/English horn; bassoon; percussion (consultation required for the two selected composers); and keyboard. The composers will provide a score and parts for the new work-in-progress for two working sessions with the six Relâche musicians on approximately April 1 and May 1, allowing for revisions after each session. Then on June 23 Relâche and the two composers will present the finished work (or work-in-progress) as part of a public panel event, initiating the Relâche 40th Anniversary Weekend, June 23-24, 2018. The panel will include Relâche personalities past and present and members of the Philadelphia new music community, providing the composers a feedback opportunity.
Applicants for two resident composer positions are requested to submit the following by midnight February 26, 2018:
-Name and contact info.
-Resumé and/or complete professional bio.
